Guitars
The sight of rock stars smashing perfectly good guitars on stage makes it easy to forget that this versatile instrument has been around since ancient times and played an integral part in some of the most popular music styles around. Blues music, country, flamenco, pop and rock music all used the guitar to create their special brand of music.
The modern guitar has evolved from the Roman cithara which goes back to as far as 40 AD. Guitars evolved over the years into the familial looking acoustic guitar. There are stylistic variations on the acoustic guitar designed to complement different types of music. There are flamenco guitars, classical guitars, steel string guitars and the arch top guitar.
One of the more versatile of the guitars in the guitar family is the classical guitar. In spite of its name, a variety of musical styles are often played on the classical guitar. A variation on the classical guitar is the Ten-string guitar which adds four strings to balance out the sound of the guitar music.
Flat- top also known as steel string guitars are similar to the basic design classical guitars, but it is generally larger in size. The steel strings generate a louder sound than the classical guitar and is popular with pop, folk, country, bluegrass, as well as jazz and blues guitarists.
There are many variations on the guitar all producing their own unique sound. Archtop guitars have a body similar to the mandolin and are available in both acoustic and electric versions. Archtop guitars have a strong following among jazz and country musicians.
Resonator guitars take after the flat top guitar in appearance. The resonator guitar gets its name from the metal resonator mounted on top of the guitar in the center. The original purpose of the resonator was to increase the sound of the guitar, but today the resonator guitar is play more for its unique sound that its volume.
The 12 string guitar has 12 steel strings and is play by such diverse musical styles as folk music to blues to rock and roll. The 12-string guitar includes six courses with two stings dedicated to each course, similar to a mandolin. This highly strung instrument is also available in electric form for performers who really want to make themselves heard.
The guitar battente includes four or five metal strings. This is not a loud and flashy guitar. It is smaller than a classical guitar and it use primarily limited to performers southern Italy to accompany singers.
For the more plugged in crowd there are the always popular electric guitars. Electric guitars are so popular that they have inspired a phenomenally popular video game based on them. Electric guitars depend on amplification to produce sound. The vibration of the steel strings is converted in electrical signals which are delivered to an amplifier through the use of a cable or radio transmitter. The sound can be altered by using other electronic devices or by taking advantage of the naturally occurring distortion that can occur with the vacuum tubes in the amplifier. Rock stars are not the only fans of electric guitars. Electric guitars are also used extensively by jazz and blues artists. To create a truly versatile guitar, the features of electrical and acoustic guitars are blended together to create a kind of hybrid guitar. These hybrid guitars are fairly common. What are not so common are the guitars with two or more necks.
Modern guitars can be designed to accommodate either left or right hand players. Normally the dominant hand performs the plucking or strumming part of the guitar playing. No matter who the ibanez acoustic guitar is designed for, the guitar will be typically made of various types of wood. Whether the vibration of guitar strings is transformed by the hollow body of the guitar or through electrical means, played by a right handed or left handed person, one thing remains the same. There is nothing like the sound of a skilled guitarist playing this amazing instrument.
