The Pearl Musical Instrument Company is headquartered in Japan and manufacturers a wide array of instruments, mainly percussion and flutes. The company began by making music stands in 1946. By 1953, the company expanded to include drum kits, marching drums, Latin percussion instruments, cymbals, tambourines, and accessories.
Pearl pioneered innovative drum products. Early designs included shells that were slightly undersized and hinged tube tom-arms. The company made shells for over 30 other companies, and finally came out with drums under their own name in the l960s.
