V-drum triggers come in three major types: mesh-head, rubber pad, and cymbal. The newest and most realistic are the mesh-head type. The simpler is the rubber-coated pad. In the case of Roland brand electronic cymbals, the brand name V-Cymbals is used.
The V-Cymbals are designed to imitate the physical properties of authentic acoustic cymbals of various types, including ride, crash and hi-hat. Less expensive V-Cymbals offer a simpler but less realistic way of replacing actual cymbals. Many drummers who formerly did not think of using electronic drums because of their lack of authentic feel have now adopted V-Drums because of the mesh-head triggers.
