Zildjian Percussion Cymbals

Zildjian Percussion Cymbals

The first Zildjian cymbals were made by Avedis Zildjian in 1623 in Istanbul, Turkey. The original intent was to make an instrument to frighten enemies of the Turks. It was not until the 1800s that manufacturing cymbals as musical instruments grew.

Around 1929, Avedis II and Aram Zildjian began manufacturing cymbals in Massachusetts in competition is K. Zildjian company in Turkey. Avedia made innovations in Cymbals that are still around today. He was the first to develop drum-set cymbals and gave the names such as ride, crash, splash, and hi-hat.

The company was popular among jazz drummers because of the personal attention they received. Armand Zildjian, Avedis III’s son, hand selected cymbals for all the top drummers of the day, including Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Cozy Cole, and Papa Jo Jones. Check out the company’s latest released, “Pitch Black”, line of cymbals with a black finish on the top and other new and used Zildjian cymbals on eBay.
